Government ITI में नाम लिखवाने के लिए एंट्रेंस एग्जाम देने होते हैं लेकिन प्राइवेट आईटीआई कॉलेज में सीधी नाम लिखवा सकते हैं प्रत्येक राज्य में आईटीआई कोर्स में नामांकन के अलग-अलग प्रक्रिया है जैसे बिहार आईटीआई के लिए एंट्रेंस एग्जामिनेशन से गुजर ना होता है उत्तर प्रदेश आईटीआई दसवीं कक्षा में प्राप्त अंकों के आधार पर Merit List तैयार किया जाता है इसी प्रकार अन्य राज्यों में ITI में Admission के लिए अलग-अलग तरीके हैं मुख्य रूप से सरकारी ITI में प्रवेश हेतु रिटन एग्जामिनेशन पास करने होते हैं उसके आधार पर सरकारी कॉलेज में रैंक के अनुसार Trade मिलता है
